Population Growth and Net Overseas Migration, Australia

5 May 2023

Australia’s population grew by 418,500 people, equivalent to 1.6% in the 12 months to 30 September 2022.

Population growth was driven by higher net overseas migration, at 304K and a natural increase of 115K people. New South Wales, Queensland and Victoria all registered a #populationgrowth of over 100,000, with Queensland the highest at 114,400.

Higher population growth looks set to protect Australia from the recession being experienced in the UK, Europe and the US in 2023.
