Auctioneering mastery was on full display in Adelaide this week as Australasia’s top auctioneers competed for the coveted title of 2025 Australasian Auctioneering Champion. After a fiercely contested final round, Mark McGoldrick, NZ was crowned this year’s winner, edging out fellow finalists Jake McIntyre, (Tas), Sam Steele (NZ), Robert Tulp (NZ), and Greg Brydon (Vic) in a competition that showcased exceptional poise, precision, and performance.

Hosted by the Real Estate Institute of South Australia (REISA) and convened by the Real Estate Institute of Australia (REIA) and the Real Estate Institute of New Zealand (REINZ), the AUSTROS remains the most prestigious event on the auctioneering calendar. Finalists from across Australia and New Zealand competed following wins at their state and national titles, with the judges praising the calibre of this year’s field as one of the strongest yet.

REIA President, Leanne Pilkington, congratulated the winner and all finalists, highlighting the significance of the event in elevating the craft of auctioneering.

“This competition continues to attract the best of the best across Australasia,” Ms Pilkington said. “Each competitor brought a unique style, and this year’s finalists demonstrated why this event remains the benchmark for excellence in auctioneering.”

The spotlight also shone on emerging talent, with the Australasian Novice Auctioneering Championship drawing 14 promising competitors to the stage earlier in the day. After a series of confident and polished calls, Tama Emery, NZ was announced as the 2025 Novice Champion.

In a field marked by fresh energy and impressive composure, the novice competitors demonstrated the depth of talent coming through the ranks. The judging panel commended all entrants for their professionalism, courage, and adaptability under pressure.

“The novice competition is set to become a favourite — it’s a glimpse into the future of auctioneering,” said Ms Pilkington. “We were blown away by the standard.

REISA CEO Andrea Heading congratulated the winner and to every contender who stepped up with passion and commitment. “The future of auctioneering is in very capable hands,” she said.

The AUSTROS continues to serve as a platform for celebrating technical excellence, industry leadership, and the enduring craft of auctioneering across Australia and New Zealand.
