Mirvac Returns to the Eastern Suburbs with Waverley Redevelopment

22 December 2020

Mirvac has entered into an agreement with the Easts Group to redevelop the Waverley Bowling Club in Sydney.

Mirvac plans to restore the site to its former glory as a thriving lifestyle precinct and social hub for Members and the community that reflects local architectural styles and the distinctive urban context of the iconic coastal location, while showcasing leading environmentally sustainable design.

The one hectare site has development consent for a new, modern bowling club facility featuring one championship bowling green and one synthetic green, a cafe and landscaping upgrades, as well as 55 premium apartments for people aged 55 and over. The project has been managed by Hamptons Property Services and designed by Altis Architects, with JLL marketing the development.

The Easts Group will retain ownership of the bowling club, greens and underground parking for Members.

Mirvac Head of Residential, Stuart Penklis, said that this is an exciting opportunity to create an exceptional new community and residential precinct for a specific demographic that is much needed in the locality.

“The project marks Mirvac’s return to Sydney’s eastern suburbs, following the successful completion of The Moreton in Bondi in 2017. We look forward to working with the Easts Group to unlock the site’s special potential and deliver yet another legacy project for Members and the community.

“Our vision is to celebrate the site’s unique heritage while setting new benchmarks for innovation, sustainability and the high-quality built form for which Mirvac is known.

“The agreement with the Easts Group is consistent with our strategy to extend our pipeline with projects that can deliver the right product in the right location at the right price. We look forward to drawing on our extensive local knowledge and understanding of the area and working with the Easts Group and Waverley Council to deliver this landmark community,” Mr Penklis added.

Easts Group CEO Joe Kelly said this is wonderful news for Members, and that Mirvac was the ideal partner to deliver this project as a new social hub and heart of the community.

“We are delighted to have the opportunity to work with Mirvac to deliver a vibrant new facility for Waverley. Mirvac’s reputation for excellence and proven success at delivering high calibre projects in the eastern suburbs means that they are perfectly positioned to reimagine this iconic location for the future,” said Mr Kelly.

“Waverley Bowling Club has a long and rich history, and it’s exciting to know that our Members and local community will have a contemporary club to call home when it opens in mid-2023, coinciding with the Club’s 130th anniversary.”

Extensive rooftop solar panels, green roofs, electric vehicle charging, and energy and water efficient appliances are among a range of sustainability features included in the development plans for the new precinct.

Construction is expected to begin by mid-2021.
