Private Melbourne developer, DealCorp, has this week announced its latest partnership which will see The Standard Hotel open its first Australian location in Rose Street, Fitzroy.
The project, said to be worth in excess of $60m, is designed by Woods Bagot architects with interiors by Hecker Guthrie and is slated for completion in 2023. DealCorp purchased the site in 2018 and subsequently had a hotel permit approved in 2019.
The Standard, Fitzroy, will feature 127 rooms over seven levels including an intimate rooftop experience. The Standardās unique style of hospitality, defined by compelling design, and engaging culinary and cultural experiences will complement Fitzroyās bustling creative community, surrounded by bars, cafes, galleries and retail.
āWe couldnāt be happier to be bringing this iconic brand to Australian shores, With the countryās focus turning to a post-COVID era, this feels like a pivotal moment for hotel and travel,ā said DealCorp Executive Chairman, David Kobritz.
āThe Standard was a natural choice for our Rose Street hotel project. Not only are our brand values aligned but they are the perfect operator to bring to a suburb like Fitzroy which has such a rich culture and history,ā concluded Kobritz. ā
The Fitzroy neighborhood in Melbourne represents exciting new territory for The Standard but at the same time feels totally familiar,ā said Standard International CEO, Amar Lalvani.
āDealCorpās commitment to making long-lasting contributions to its community is aligned with our own history of enhancing the neighborhoods we become part of,ā Lalvani continued.
The hotelās design will take cues from Fitzroyās industrial heritage, whilst also being respectful of its residential surrounds.
ā In designing this hotel, we designed it to be localāto continue the architectural traditions of Fitzroy and sustain the neighbourhoodās artistic and cultural spirit,ā said Woods Bagot Principal and Regional Design Leader (Australia & New Zealand), Peter Miglis.
ā Fitzroyās history of corner pubs, workers cottages, grand housing and industry inspired our approach to the buildingās faƧades. Weathered steel and concrete are robust, timeless materials that sit comfortably straight away and, over time, will add charm as they patina,ā concluded Miglis.
The Standard, Melbourne will join The Standardās growing portfolio of hotels, which include the award winning The Standard, London and The Standard, Huruvalhi Maldives both of which last year joined The Standard hotels in New York, Los Angeles and Miami.
Standard International has also announced forthcoming hotels in Bangkok, Singapore, Hua Hin, Lisbon, Milan, and Chicago, among others. With the backing of Sansiri PLC, Thailandās leading property developer, and led by CEO, Amar Lalvani, Standard International is widely recognized as one of the most innovative hospitality / lifestyle brands in the industry. Despite the challenges of the economic climate, the company continues to expand its footprint with landmark projects around the world.
