National electronics retailer commits to 1,650sqm store at Stony Rise Central, signalling confidence in north‑west Tasmania’s retail market.
JB Hi‑Fi has committed to a new large format retail (LFR) store at Stony Rise Central, reinforcing growing retailer confidence in Devonport and the broader north‑west Tasmania retail catchment.
The national electronics retailer has secured a 1,650 square metre tenancy within the soon to be developed Stony Rise Central precinct, located just outside Devonport at Friend Street, Stony Rise. The commitment represents a major anchor for the development and further strengthens the region’s evolution as a key bulky‑goods and homemaker retail destination.
The 4,000 square metre LFR site, being delivered by Tasmanian developer Best Street Investments Pty Ltd, forms part of a broader retail expansion precinct at Stony Rise, positioned adjacent to Stony Rise Village, a $60 million retail centre currently under construction by Tipalea. Together, the developments signal a step‑change in Devonport’s retail offer, delivering larger‑format national brands alongside complementary convenience and specialty operators.
Jake Beckwith, Colliers Associate Director | Retail Leasing, said, “JB Hi‑Fi’s decision to commit to Stony Rise Central highlights the depth and resilience of Devonport’s retail catchment.
“We’re seeing national retailers increasingly recognise the opportunity in well‑located regional centres that offer strong trade areas, limited competing supply and growing demand for large format and homemaker retail.”
Tasmania’s larger regional centres are benefiting from population retention, tourism and continued investment in retail infrastructure.
Stony Rise Central is strategically located on the western edge of Devonport, offering direct access to major arterial routes and strong visibility to passing traffic. The precinct has been designed to accommodate large‑format national retailers servicing both Devonport and the wider north‑west Tasmanian region.
Mr Beckwith added, “Well‑designed LFR developments such as Stony Rise Central are attracting high‑quality operators seeking modern accommodation with strong accessibility and exposure, particularly where projects are being delivered alongside significant mixed‑use and town‑centre investment.”
In addition to JB Hi‑Fi, discussions are progressing with several other national retailers for the balance of available space, with interest reflecting ongoing demand for premium bulky‑goods accommodation in the market.
The JB Hi‑Fi commitment follows the commencement of construction at the adjacent Stony Rise Village, which will be anchored by Woolworths, bringing the largest supermarket in Tasmania’s north-west to Devonport, with Click & Collect and Direct to Boot, Stony Rise Village will further include a pharmacy, BWS liquor, specialty retail and a childcare centre.
Once complete, the combined developments will establish Stony Rise as one of the most significant new retail precincts delivered in Devonport in more than a decade, providing modern retail amenity, employment opportunities and an expanded offer for local residents.
