Pensar Backs Tasmania’s Infrastructure Future with Permanent HQ and New Local Jobs
24 March 2025
In a move set to accelerate job creation and fast-track critical infrastructure upgrades, one of Australia’s leading infrastructure solution providers on the East Coast’ is establishing a permanent presence in Tasmania to help the state seize its moment of rapid growth. Pensar, an RSK company, is establishing a dedicated Tasmanian team and will soon open a Hobart headquarters, signalling a major investment in the state’s infrastructure future and workforce development.
Pensar has delivered significant infrastructure projects across Australia, including Queensland’s $100 million Wamuran Irrigation Scheme, the Mount Crosby Critical Electrical Infrastructure upgrade contributing to the enhanced flood resilience of the heritage listed asset and the Gold Coast’s Merrimac Recycled Water Treatment Plant. With a team of 300, Pensar already has a strong footprint across metro and regional QLD, and regional NSW.
The bold expansion comes as TasWater embarks on a $1.9 billion capital investment program over the next five years,1 alongside Tasmania’s major growth in retail trade,2 tourism, and port expansions3. Meanwhile, the state’s international exports have surged to $4.5 billion, marking a 60 per cent rise over the past decade, underscoring the urgent need for robust infrastructure to support rising global demand.4
“This isn’t about a mainland company flying in for a contract and leaving,” says Pensar Operations Manager, Laura Arias. “We’ve already spent years delivering major projects in Tasmania, building strong relationships and understanding the state’s unique infrastructure challenges. Now we’re committed to creating long-term local jobs and skilled workforce that will help shape Tasmania’s future”.
Pensar’s latest decision follows four years of successfully delivering critical infrastructure projects across Tasmania. This includes strengthening the state’s water security5 though the refurbishment of ageing reservoirs at Mount Nelson, Bell Bay, and Zeehan, remediating seven major bridges statewide using innovative electrochemical realkalisation technology,6 and installing state-of-the-art UV disinfection systems at the Campbell Town, Orford, Swansea, Zeehan and Strahan Water Treatment Plants in partnership with TasWater7.
These achievements, alongside ongoing partnerships with Tasmanian clients and government bodies, have paved the way for Pensar’s permanent investment in the state.
“Our work with TasWater and the Department of State Growth highlighted the state’s ageing infrastructure and what needs to be done to future-proof key industries over the coming decade,” Laura says, “With major projects in the pipeline and record investments being made, having boots on the ground is essential for us to help deliver the solutions Tasmania needs.”
With $250 million earmarked for the Port of Devonport, increasing freight capacity by 40 per cent and accommodating an additional 160,000 passengers annually,8 and a 10-year infrastructure plan to support an ambitious 2030 Visitor Economy Strategy, Tasmania’s transformation is accelerating faster than ever.
Laura says Pensar’s decision to establish a permanent base in Hobart was driven by strong industry demand, the need for reliable infrastructure solutions particularly in water security and transport networks, and the positive relationships built from past projects.
Pensar’s investment will create new job opportunities for engineers, technicians and project managers, seeking expressions of interest for the first phase of its Tasmanian team.
“Our goal is to capitalise on Pensar’s interstate experience while building a powerhouse Tasmanian team.”
“We aren’t here to simply tick a box,” Laura adds. “Building critical infrastructure that stands the test of time requires investing in people who understand the land, the local communities, and the demands of a state on the rise. We want to be part of Tasmania’s story – driving growth, innovating solutions, and ensuring our legacy benefits generations to come.”
“Tasmania deserves infrastructure partners who will be here for the long haul. Pensar’s Hobart growth is about planting deeper roots, delivering better solutions, and making sure Tasmania has the infrastructure it needs, not just for today, but for decades to come.”
