Woodlea finalises land sale to Melton City Council for new Aintree Indoor Sports Facility
2 July 2024
Woodlea, the fastest-growing master-planned community in the West, has sold a parcel of land that will house the future Aintree Indoor Sports Facility to Melton City Council. The siteâs sale marks a major milestone that will benefit the surrounding community for many years to come.
Woodlea agreed to sell the land early, enabling significant cost savings for the council, which will be reinvested in the future indoor sports facility and other community projects.
The future centre is expected to incorporate a range of indoor sports, exercise and community facilities that will benefit people of all ages and abilities.
For the next two to three years, Woodlea will continue to use parts of the site to enable surrounding development works to be completed. They will then vacate the remainder of the site, allowing the council to take full control for planning and development of the facility. Council is also developing an Indoor Sport Strategy which will help inform the requirements and timeframes of the future centre.
Woodlea Project Director Matthew Dean said the team is excited to partner with the Melton City Council on this significant community achievement.
âThis future indoor sports facility is another step towards Woodleaâs goal of becoming Australiaâs Healthiest Community. It adds to a wealth of exciting active open space and fitness amenities currently being delivered North of Taylors Road, including two new soccer fields, a skate park, a dog park, and playground equipment. Weâre excited to see this space come to life over the next few years.â
City of Melton Mayor, Cr Kathy Majdlik also emphasised the value of this key land purchase.
âThe early purchase of this land was a strategic decision by Council to secure the right location for an indoor sports facility in Aintree.
âAs one of the fastest growing communities in Australia, Melton City Council is committed to providing the services and facilities our residents need to thrive.
This is an important step forward in our planning for the future sports facility as we focus on our vision for a healthier, more active and connected community,â said Cr Majdlik.
