Tipalea Partners has delivered the much anticipated $60 million Spring Farm Village in Kingston, Hobart. With a strong opening, it is the first new shopping centre in the Kingborough region in over 15 years.
Positioned opposite Bunnings on the Channel Highway, the project delivers a new standard of retail for Hobart’s fast growing southern corridor.
Delivered over 15 months on-time and on-budget by Tasmanian contractor Fairbrother, this represents the fifth time the duo have teamed up together in Tasmania.
Anchored by the latest generation Coles and featuring Chemist Warehouse’s first regional superstore, Spring Farm Village brings together 18 specialty shops and services and is now home to some of Tasmania’s most iconic foodies including Happy Larry Deli, Smash Boy Burgers, Hansel + Gretel bakery, Parthenon Souvlaki and Viva Italia Pizzeria and Jo’s Fresh Meats. Royal Automobile Club of Tasmania (RACT), St Lukes and Spring Farm Medical are the key service offerings at the state-of-the-art new centre.
“We are very proud of Spring Farm Village – it is without doubt the best shopping centre we have ever created,” said Scott Spanton, CEO of Tipalea Partners.
“The design and material selection is exceptional, and the standard of construction is of the highest order. This is the strongest retailer lineup we have ever secured in a centre, and that’s reflected in how quickly the Kingborough community has embraced Spring Farm Village and the outstanding trading performance our retailers are experiencing.”
“Beyond its retail offering, the project has delivered a significant economic boost, supporting more than 1,000 job opportunities during development and construction, and creating more than 300 ongoing roles across Spring Farm Village’s retailers,” he said.
All leases were brokered by Lewis Torkington and Ashleigh Wearne at ATD Property and Tipalea’s Graeme Wakefield.
“Partnering with Tipalea once again on Spring Farm Village has been a privilege, and the result sets a new benchmark for amenity and customer experience in Southern Tasmania. Practical user-centric innovations such as
step-free entries and high-quality parent facilities were designed to deliver long-term value for the community. These outcomes were made possible by a consistently strong, transparent and collaborative approach throughout delivery,” said Paul Ransley, General Manager of Fairbrother.
Fairbrother noted the significant boost to employment, with 800 workers on the Spring Farm Village construction site, averaging at 90 onsite daily. Over 156,000 labour hours were also recorded.
Spring Farm Village has been designed to meet the needs of Kingston’s fast-growing southern corridor, delivering a state-of-the-art neighbourhood retail centre for residents from Huntingfield to Margate and Snug. Designed by i2C Architects, the centre expands local retail choice and convenience while introducing a new standard of quality for the region.
With a strong focus on public art and local stories, Spring Farm Village proudly showcases the work of Tasmanian artists beneath the car park canopies and throughout the centre. Allan Mansel, Tricky Walsh and Tom O’Hern have transformed the space into a vibrant, creative precinct, layering colourful stories of community, movement and the Tasmanian environment into the everyday shopping experience.
Positioned as one of Tasmania’s most connected and sustainable retail destinations, Spring Farm Village combines leading environmental initiatives with smart centre technology. Features include EV charging stations, people counters, car counters, cloud-based CCTV, smart meters for gas / power / water, weather stations, duress intercoms, free Wi-Fi, licence plate recognition cameras, smart bathrooms, and a building information dashboard, supporting both operational efficiency and an enhanced customer experience.
The centre also offers a premium suite of customer amenities. Bathrooms and parents rooms are finished to the highest standard ever seen in Tasmania, elevating comfort and convenience for visitors. This thoughtful design reflects the broader quality of the development and its focus on delivering a more refined everyday retail experience.
Accessibility has been prioritised across the centre, with more than 350 conveniently located car parks including dedicated bays for mums and bubs, seniors and people with disability. RV parking, taxi and Uber Eats delivery bays, and EV charging stations further strengthen the centre’s accessibility and ease of use for customers.
Tipalea Partners has been investing and creating jobs in Tasmania for over 15 years and Spring Farm Village marks the developer’s sixth Tasmanian project.
It is also developing Stony Rise Village in Devonport and delivered the highly successful Glebe Hill Village in Howrah in 2022.
Tipalea Partners has successfully developed neighbourhood retail centres across Australia in locations such as Mackay in Queensland, Pimpama on the Gold Coast, Muswellbrook in the NSW Hunter Valley as well as Launceston and Hobart in Tasmania.
