Stockland and Compost Revolution promote circular living through first-of-its-kind program
30 September 2022Stockland and Compost Revolution have teamed up to deliver a first-of-its-kind program to empower, educate and equip Stockland’s masterplanned communities to support the better disposal of organic waste, reducing landfill and avoiding greenhouse gas emissions in the process.
The program is being rolled out nationally across 28 of Stockland’s masterplanned communities, giving households access to free composting equipment.
Stockland National Sustainability Manager, Amy Hogan said: “Around 50 per cent of what the average Australian household discards is compostable, which equates to over half a tonne of organic waste in landfill each year.
“This program will help to educate the community, increase resilience, and empower our residents to dispose of organic waste appropriately and reduce their own carbon footprint.
“When we launched our pilot program across four of our communities in 2020, we saw a great response from residents, resulting in more than 15,000 kilograms of CO2 emissions saved.
“The partnership with Compost Revolution is a priority of our 2030 Sustainability Strategy to adopt and implement circular models with our communities. In enabling circular systems, we can take our residents along the journey to minimise our environmental impact and address climate change.
“We’re excited to work with Compost Revolution again to deliver this program across more of our communities nationwide – imagine the difference we can make!” Ms Hogan said.
Compost Revolution Chief Composting Officer, David Gravina said: “We’re wriggling with excitement to be working with Stockland to help residents across their communities begin their composting journey.
“The partnership makes it affordable and easy for Stockland’s households to nurture their gardens and grow healthy, organic food for their families.
“We’re looking forward to continuing our work with Stockland in the coming years to create greener, more abundant and resilient communities across Australia,” Mr Gravina said.
Households will receive a $120 voucher to spend at Compost Revolution and can choose from a range of products including worm farms, compost bins and eco tumblers, kitchen caddies, and garden beds. A series of tutorials aimed at supporting households with composting is available on the Compost Revolution website.
As part of the program, Stockland will have access to a purpose-built, real-time dashboard, designed to give insight on key metrics and provide a thorough understanding of the program’s impact on the community and environment.
