As more Australian families rethink how they live, one trend is becoming increasingly clear: homes need to work harder for more people. Driven by rising housing costs and shifting lifestyle needs, multi-generational living is gaining momentum across the country.
According to March 2026 AMP research, up to 55 per cent of Australians are open to or support multi-generational living to manage costs and share resources, with 68 per cent of those aged 20–39 favouring the arrangement.
Responding to this shift, Sherridon Homes, Victoria’s Number 1 Home Builder, has introduced Promenade, a new collection of double-storey homes, designed to deliver space, flexibility and everyday luxury for modern families.
At the centre of the collection is the Monaco, a home specifically designed with multi-generational living in mind, featuring two master suites, each complete with a walk-in robe and double vanity ensuite.
The layout allows for a variety of living arrangements, from accommodating grandparents or guests downstairs to creating a private retreat for parents upstairs, all within a single, cohesive home.
Sherridon Homes’ parent company, Mirrastone’s CEO, Nathan Jenkinson, said the design reflects how families are evolving.
“We’re seeing more families looking for homes that can adapt over time. It’s not just about space anymore; it’s about how that space functions. Homes need to support different stages of life, whether that’s young children, teenagers, or extended family living under one roof,” he said.
Beyond the dual master suites, the home includes multiple living zones, ensuites to every bedroom, and practical features such as a mudroom and butler’s pantry, all designed to support busy, multi-layered households.
The broader collection has been designed to cater to a range of modern lifestyles, with features such as chef’s kitchens for entertaining, integrated indoor-outdoor spaces including courtyards, and dedicated areas for working from home, all centred around flexibility and long-term liveability.
“This collection is about everyday luxury. It’s not about over-designing a home, it’s about delivering thoughtful features that genuinely improve how people live day to day,” Nathan added.
The homes have been designed to suit both knockdown rebuild and greenfield buyers, particularly those seeking larger homes that can evolve with their needs over time.
To support the launch, Sherridon Homes has also opened two new display homes at Kinley Estate in Lilydale, giving customers the opportunity to experience the scale, layout and functionality of the designs firsthand.
As housing needs continue to shift, the demand for flexible, future-ready homes is expected to grow, particularly among families balancing lifestyle, affordability and long-term planning.
“People are thinking more carefully about how their home will serve them, not just now, but five or ten years down the track. This is about giving them that confidence,” Nathan said.
