Send Your Travel Worries on a Long Holiday: Neighbourhood Security Key in Land Lease Model
4 February 2025
Despite older Australians investing in travel far more regularly than their younger counterparts, many in this demographic still have fears over home invasions while away, with the booming land lease model a wise choice for these worried jet setters.
According to a CommBank iQ report, the over-50 age group continued to increase its travel spending in 2024 with a 12% rise for those in their 70s and over. Comparatively, travel spending has decreased as much as 10% in 25-29 year olds.1
AVID General Manager Land Lease Communities Manuel Lang said itâs not surprising that this group is leading the charge in discretionary spending.
âThe Baby Boomer generation is the first to enjoy a full working career with superannuation, so as theyâve come into their super, retired, and paid off their houses, itâs natural to start looking for new ways to embrace life. A great way to do that is through travel, both domestically and internationally.
âBy the same token, as they transition into this new chapter, some might feel more vulnerable in locking up and leaving. Those in large stand-alone homes are likely to feel nervous about leaving their residence unattended for long periods and donât want to place the burden of housesitting on friends and family,â Mr Lang said.
A survey by Australian Seniors found that whilst 1 in 5 Australianâs over 50 chose to prioritise travel, many were âvery or extremely concernedâ about home safety issues during their time away.2
Mr Lang said a major draw card for land lease living is the maintenance and security elements of the offering.
âA lot of land lease neighbourhoods are gated with on-site staff on hand to keep things secure. Essentially, you still get your own home, but you can leave behind the onerous parts of traditional land ownership and move around in a more stress-free fashion. Many land lease communities will even maintain the front lawn for you, so returning home is just as relaxing as the trip was!â
Vantage Bloomdale, located in one of Meltonâs safest suburbs3 and developed by AVID Property Group, is the first land lease community of its kind in the rapidly growing area and was designed with these safety and privacy features in mind.
âVantage Bloomdale has been created to promote maximum safety while still allowing for a relaxed, independent lifestyle.
âThe community is fully fenced and securely gated, with access only possible via a number of smart systems including number plate recognition at the front entry gate. Our expert Community Manager is onsite on weekdays and residents have a number to call after hours to ensure they feel confident to enjoy their lock up and leave lifestyle,â Mr Lang said.
Vantage Bloomdale is set to include over 250 homes and will see the completion of construction works on the neighbourhood amenities in 2025. To learn more about safety and security at Vantage Bloomdale, visit: https://vantagebloomdale.avid.com.au/
