REINSW President Barry Johnston Steps Down Due to Personal and Business Obligations
23 October 2024
The Real Estate Institute of New South Wales (REINSW) today announces that Barry Johnston has resigned from his position as President, due to personal and business obligations.
Mr Johnston has accomplished his personal objectives at the REINSW, particularly around the launching of the highly successful annual Commercial Property Summit and establishing the platform for a new stream of agency practice – Tenant Representation. Barry has had an unforeseen increase in demands to care for his family and additionally, like agents everywhere a growing number of business obligations.
“I have thoroughly enjoyed my time as President of the REINSW. It has been an honour to work alongside such a dedicated team. However, the industry is at a pivotal time, with significant changes impacting our industry including AML, Strata, Residential Tenancy Reform and a range of other compliance and lobbying items. This requires a President who can dedicate the necessary time and energy to effectively represent our members and advance our collective interests. Due to unforeseen circumstances, my priority is to pass the Presidency batten over to a fellow Board member with the capacity to advocate fully and effectively for our members at this time,” Mr Johnston said.
REINSW Chief Executive Officer, Timothy McKibbin, expressed gratitude for Mr Johnston’s contributions during his tenure. “Barry has been a committed and passionate advocate for our industry. I know his decision to step down has been a difficult one. We fully support him as he prioritises his family and business obligations. We also sincerely thank him for his achievements at the REINSW and his service to the Industry, not only as President, but also for his ten years on the Board.”
The REINSW Board will soon announce the appointment of the new President to continue our important task of advocating for the industry.
