Queensland Contributes Most to Construction Falls

30 August 2019

Queensland continues to bear the brunt of the drop in the construction industry as work across the country falls by -3.8% for the June quarter.

The ABS's Quarterly Construction Activity for the June 2019 showed that total construction activity down to $48.7Bn, down -3.8% on last quarter and down -11% on the same period last year.

Queensland was down -6% on last quarter and -16% on the previous year with Residential works down -8.5%, Non Residential works down -4.6% and Engineering works down -4.7% on the previous quarter.

Across Australia, Residential construction activity fell 5.1% with Non Residential Construction activity falling -6.6% and Engineering works falling -1.1%.

The results reveal that construction activity is now at the lowest level since September 2016 and is likely to be heading much lower as new residential projects are less likely to commence.
