Werribee locals are set to enjoy a major boost to convenience with national developer-builder Oreana announcing it has started early works on the construction of new local shopping centre Riverwalk Village.
Spanning 26,000 square metres (sqm) across two sites with a combined Net Lettable Area (NLA) of 8,451sqm, the $88 million Riverwalk Village at 1 & 2 Newmarket Road will open in the first half of 2027, with construction expected to commence at the end of the first quarter of 2026.
At the heart of the centre will be a cutting-edge Coles supermarket and Liquorland, spanning 3,445 square metres, and complemented by 42 local shops (to be delivered in two stages), offices and curated dining.
Shops and workplaces are grouped into connected clusters across both sides of Newmarket Road, creating a seamless, pedestrian-friendly environment that invites movement and discovery. When complete, it will create a vibrant streetscape akin to a local village.
Retailers confirmed include Anytime Fitness, Direct Chemist Outlet and a medical centre complemented by other health and wellness services, a butcher, nail salon, barber and laundromat, among others.
Oreana Managing Director Tony Sass said Riverwalk Village would be a cornerstone of the growing Werribee community.
“This new shopping centre has been purposefully designed to make everyday life easier – bringing together everything locals need in one place, from a state-of-the-art supermarket and early learning centre to a diverse mix of specialty retailers,” Mr Sass said.
“It’s more than just a shopping destination; it’s about creating a true community hub, a place where people can meet, connect and feel part of their neighbourhood as it continues to grow.
“Commencement of works and the confirmation of retailers is an important milestone for the community, which has been waiting eagerly for this project to come to life.”
Riverwalk Village is designed by the award-winning team at Clarke Hopkins Clarke and will comprise two stages, built consecutively by Oreana.
Highly active in Melbourne’s greenfield space, Oreana also has the following neighbourhood shopping centres under construction:
