Region Group (ASX: RGN) has submitted new plans for proposed Greenbank Shopping Centre refresh and expansion that will deliver a transformative new Town Centre for the fast-growing community.
The revised plans include a minor amendment to the pre-approved Development Application (DA), anchored by a new Discount Department Store, a range of additional specialty retailers, expanded food and beverage offerings, and the creation of a true Town Centre designed to become the focal point of community life in Greenbank.
Region Group General Manager, Major Tenant Partnerships and Projects, Wayne Moodie said the amendment to the existing DA was a result of subsequent market changes and reflected community driven refinement of the project.
“Our previous engagements with the local community revealed overwhelming support for the redevelopment reaffirming our vision for the Centre, however, while community feedback was positive, we felt the timing wasn’t right to progress immediately given shifting market conditions,” Mr Moodie said.
“This delay has given us the opportunity to deliver an even better precinct for the community – allowing us to further refine the plans to ensure the design, tenant mix and community amenities are best-in-class for locals including integrated customer service elements with direct-to-boot and parcel pickup services.
“The new design has incorporated community feedback throughout and places emphasis on community-minded spaces that use rest points, integrated landscaping and sub-tropical greenspaces to create a place for great memories and community connectivity.”
In partnership, Region Group and DMA Partners have led the minor amendment process and refined the masterplan to deliver a true Town Centre for Greenbank – a distinctly local destination set to bring lasting benefits to the wider community.
Greenbank is set to experience a population boom over the next 10 years and by 2041 the area is expected to reach 74,000 in the core local catchment1.
“The expansion of the Centre is perfectly timed to meet the needs of the fast-growing community, offering a convenient shopping experience in a central location for both existing and future Greenbank residents,” Mr Moodie said.
“This will be truly transformative not only in terms of investment, construction and employment but in creating a community-focused destination that locals can enjoy for decades to come.
“The new masterplan still embodies the key tenets of the previous design, and consideration is being given to the future stages of planning, and how they will be incorporated into the larger master plan.”
Greenbank Shopping Centre is located within the Flagstone Priority Development area and situated adjacent to other proposed developments including a new Logan Council library and community facility, state health hub, new school and train station.
Region Group will prepare for construction – starting with the existing Centre refresh – in early 2027.
