After 23 years of ownership, the Hakfoort Group has sold the heritage-listed Redbrick Hotel. The hotel occupies a prominent corner position fronting Annerley Road.
The property was sold by Tony Bargwanna, National Director and Leon Alaban, National Director of Savills.
âAs a Brisbane landmark for 132 years, the sale of Woolloongabbaâs Redbrick Hotel holds great cultural and historical value. Even after undergoing significant refurbishment over the years, the hotel maintains its original charm while still offering high-end modern finishes,â said Leon Alaban, National Director â Savills Hotels.
Woolloongabbaâs Redbrick Hotel was first built in 1980 for Thomas Burke, who remained the owner until 1899 before selling. It has since seen several owners, but in the 1980s it was aptly named âBurkeâs Hotelâ in his honour.
Burkeâs Hotel was later known as the Red Brick because of the red 10-pound notes knowns as âbricksâ used by bookies to set bets in the public bar. The hotel retains much of its original architecture, substantially intact for a nineteenth-century building.
âThe sale of this Woolloongabbaâs Redbrick Hotel illustrates the continued strong demand for South East Queensland hotels,â said Mr. Alaban.
