Como Terraces, the South Yarra residential precinct developed by Sterling Global and Cbus Property, has been recognised at the 2025 UDIA Victoria Awards for Excellence, winning the Design category and receiving a commendation in the Medium Density category.
Set along the Yarra River escarpment, Como Terraces reflects a design response that is deeply connected to its site. The project’s terraced form integrates eight low-rise buildings into a steep 7,900sqm hillside, balancing architectural ambition with ecological sensitivity. Designed by Carr and shaped in close collaboration with TCL, the development maximises light, privacy and views while retaining more than half the site as open space. A layered natural material palette, passive design strategies, and a 90kW rooftop solar system with SolShare distribution technology contribute to its refined character and enduring sustainability.
Sterling Global Development Director Brandon Yeoh said the recognition underscores the importance of considered medium-density housing in established neighbourhoods.
“Como Terraces was guided by a commitment to long-term value, a project that would honour the landscape, contribute to the fabric of South Yarra, and offer homes that feel grounded, calm and enduring. UDIA Victoria’s acknowledgement reinforces the collective effort required to deliver a precinct of this calibre,” said Brandon.
Brandon said the outcome reflects the depth of collaboration across the project team. “From planning and engineering to architecture and landscape, every decision focused on working with the escarpment rather than against it. The result is a place that feels connected, generous and sensitively delivered, a benchmark for design-led residential development.”
The project navigated significant topographic and environmental constraints, including a 26-metre fall across the site and stringent landscape and view corridor controls. An Early Contractor Involvement model supported the translation of the design vision through delivery, ensuring that detailing, materiality and landscape integration were retained from concept to completion.
The UDIA Victoria awards add to a series of 2025 accolades for Como Terraces, including Winner of the IDEA Award for Multi-Residential, Winner of the Low-Rise Apartment Buildings category at the Master Builders Victoria Awards, Winner of the Best Luxury Apartment Development (Victoria) at the PropertyGuru Asia Property Awards, and Winner of the Luxury Category at the Australian Apartment Advocacy’s Apartment Awards for Excellence.
The project has also been shortlisted in the AIA Victorian Architecture Awards for Residential Architecture – Multiple Housing, the Australian Interior Design Awards in Residential Design, and The Urban Developer Awards in the Medium Density Residential (Under 40) category.
