Last year’s (2024) Housing Industry Association Awards proved rewarding for one family and their builder, as they took home the win for both the Victorian Project Home Over $500,000 and 2024 Victorian Project Home of the year.
The G.J. Gardner Homes Melbourne Inner North West franchise was awarded for its Stamford home design in the River Valley Community, one of 120 homes the franchise has built in the region.
Steve and Maryanne Woodford, the proud owners of the award-winning property said they never expected to win, they were simply out to build their dream home after selling their family home of 26 years.
“When our builder Mark knocked on our door and told us we had won we were blown away, it feels amazing to be the owners of a multi-award-winning home,” Mr Woodford said.
“Before choosing G.J. Gardner Homes and the Stamford design we did extensive research to choose the style of home we wanted, including a trip to Queensland to visit display homes.
“One of our neighbours actually built the same design so we knew we liked the façade but being able to see it in person and really analyse it helped us solidify our ideas for what we wanted in our new home.”
Mr Woodford said the best part of the process was having the flexibility to adapt the floor plan to suit his family’s lifestyle.
“I spend a lot of time in the garage in my motorbike workshop, so it was exciting to be able to modify that space to be exactly how I wanted it – I included side access to keep the mess out of the house, three car spaces to accommodate the workshop, epoxy flooring for easy clean-ups, and plenty of lighting,” Mr Woodford said.
“The home has every feature we wanted, plus we get the joy of being set amongst the native bushland while only being fifteen minutes from the heart of the city – it’s truly the best of both worlds.
“Working with G.J. Gardner Homes was a dream, the team were easy to talk to, they were forward with any delays or changes to the schedule, the whole process ran smoothly and ultimately ahead of schedule.”
