Australian-based alternative asset management firm Jameson TBB (formerly Jameson Capital) has formed a strategic partnership with, and secured investment from, the Buxton Family Office to help drive the business’s growth and expansion, provide capital certainty, and build out its funds management platform.

The Buxton Family Office (BFO) is the private investment vehicle of Andrew Buxton who is the co-founder and Managing Director of Melbourne-based property development business MAB Corporation (MAB). MAB, one of Australia’s largest private diversified property development businesses has operations that span masterplanned communities, residential, commercial and industrial and investment management with a current pipeline of projects of $16.5b. Andrew’s son, Charlie Buxton, who is the managing director of commercial and industrial development and investment management business Cadence Property Group is also involved within the family office and its investment in Jameson.

The strategic partnership will see the BFO provide funding as an underwriter to future deals and transactions, giving Jameson greater capital certainty and the ability to execute on complex and time-sensitive opportunities quickly. The Buxtons’ property development expertise will also help Jameson expand its direct investment business targeting principal investments with mid-market developers and asset owners by leveraging the family’s extensive experience and insights.

The BFO is also a key investor in the Jameson Special Situations fund, a $100m fund that will invest into a diversified portfolio of hybrid-credit investments in sectors that include last mile logistics, childcare, seniors living, self-storage, data centres, medium density residential and healthcare.

Nick Browne, director and co-founder of Jameson TTB, says: “We are thrilled to enter a partnership with the Buxton Family Office and the family members behind it who are extremely successful property developers and investors with decades of experience.”

Jonathan Webster, director and co-founder of Jameson TTB, says: “As a like-minded family, who have a deep understanding of real estate and have the capital to place, it will allow us to build out our real estate debt and equity funds and execute deals faster through capital certainty. Their diverse expertise attracted us to form this strategic partnership, and they will complement our own experience as funds managers.”

Andrew Buxton, managing director and co-founder of MAB, says: “As initial investors in the Jameson Special Situations fund, we saw the prospect of a broader working relationship with the firm and the ability to add diversity to our current operations through exposure to transactions in alternative real estate such as aged care, data centres, self-storage, and childcare. Where traditionally we have been straight developers, we see a broader opportunity set with Jameson TTB in the alternative funds management space.

“Our partnership with Jameson TTB is one of great synergy and is complementary to what we do, which is fundamentally property development. We believe we can add value to the Jameson TTB team and their clientele, while the firm continues to expand its expertise in alternative assets funds management.”

Charlie Buxton and Lauren Short, Financial Controller for the Buxton Family Office and MAB Corporation, have been appointed to the board of Jameson TTB.
