Global contractor Multiplex has reached a major construction milestone at NEXTDC’s P1 Perth, Topping Out Stage Two of the data centre development. As part of Stage Two, Multiplex installed the largest satellite antenna array in Western Australia (WA), further boosting its digital infrastructure.
Located at 4 Millrose Drive in Malaga, north of Perth’s CBD, the five-level building represents the fifth data centre Multiplex has been contracted on by the ASX-listed Australian tech giant.
Stage Two of P1 Perth will double the data centre’s current IT capacity. The build is highly technical, with significant complexity added by working next to the operational building delivered in Stage One.
Now that Stage Two of P1 Perth has reached its tallest point, Multiplex will commence fit-out of the building’s plantrooms, offices, and new data hall.
Future works will include the fit-out of two more data halls, plus expansions to central plant and services infrastructure.

Multiplex has proven credentials in collaborating with NEXTDC on its highly specialised data centre projects. We have worked on five data centres around Australia over the last seven years – representing over 500MW of total IT capacity,” said Chris Palandri, Regional Managing Director – Western Australia at Multiplex.
“The technical nature of this project has required meticulous construction. It reflects our experience delivering intricate projects in live, sensitive environments and our ability to mobilise our specialist workforce,” added Mr. Palandri.
Stage Two of P1 Perth has seen 95 workers onsite each day, with a combined 154,055 hours worked on the project so far.
Sustainable construction practices are driving the project’s delivery, with Multiplex using an electric crane onsite to lower emissions. Green concrete has also reduced embodied carbon emissions by 65% compared to conventional cement mixes.
Prefabricated components – including risers, header pipework, and reinforcement cages – are being used to minimise waste and enhance efficiency. A focus on local procurement has also seen Multiplex switch from imported materials to locally sourced aluminium and precast panels.
Further to this, P1 Perth has been designed to meet a minimum 5-Star WELS water efficiency rating.
Social inclusion has been a key focus onsite, with Multiplex engaging 100% Indigenous-owned Rigsafe as its rigging partner. Multiplex also created career pathways by upskilling local trainees and creating promotion opportunities for apprentices within subcontractor teams.
Practical completion of Stage Two is scheduled for Quarter 3 2026.
Previous data centres delivered by Multiplex for NEXTDC include the S2 Sydney data centre in Sydney’s Macquarie Park and more recently, Stages One and Two of S3 Sydney in Artarmon. Multiplex is currently completing the expansion of Stage Two at NEXTDC’s B2 Brisbane in Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley.
