Sustainable Development Group (SDG) welcomes the announcement that Wesley Mission’s affordable rental and supported housing project at Curtin (ACT) has reached contract close under Round 1 of the Housing Australia Future Fund (HAFF).

The project is also being supported by the ACT Government through its Affordable Housing Project Fund and a construction grant.

SDG has played a key role in achieving project feasibility for the project in collaboration with project partners AMC Architecture, Woden Valley Uniting Church and MyHome in Canberra, and led the preparation and lodgement of a development application for the project earlier this year.

Located in an established residential centre close to existing and future public transport, the project will deliver:

  • 83 affordable housing units targeted at key workers.
  • 15 supported housing apartments for those with enduring mental illness, with on-site care support.
  • Landscaped public space for recreational purposes and community use.

SDG’s Head of Project Management, James Cockrem, said reaching contract close under the Federal Government’s $10 billion HAFF program gives the project certainty.

“This project is set to be a crucial piece of social infrastructure for the local community and for those in need of high quality affordable housing,” Mr Cockrem said.

“It’s been a real collaborative effort to get the project to this point and, at SDG, we’re proud to play our part in ensuring people delivering essential services such as health care, teaching and retail services can live near where they work.

“The project also shows a deep care for some of the most vulnerable in our society through the supported housing component, which fits with SDG’s Christian ethos.

“The HAFF program makes projects like this feasible, so it’s a real game changer.” More information on the Wesley Curtin project is available here.
