New industrial centres to boost jobs and investment in Western Sydney

Two new business hubs will create almost 1,400 jobs and inject more than $230 million into Western Sydney following NSW Government approval for the projects.

Minister for Planning and Public Spaces Rob Stokes said the approval of the new hubs in Rosehill and Marsden Park will help the state as it recovers from the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The planning system is playing a crucial role in strengthening the economy and keeping people in jobs as we deal with the fall-out of the pandemic,” Mr Stokes said.

“The development of these two hubs will inject $235 million into the economy and provide more than 1,448 jobs at a time when we need them most.”

The new 35-hectare Central Sydney Industrial Estate will replace the former Shell refinery in Rosehill and will include Downer’s Sustainable Road Resource Centre that will produce and recycle asphalt for road construction projects across NSW.

While the Sydney Business Park has been up and running in Marsden Park since December 2014, this approval includes four new warehouse and distribution facilities, adding to the 73 businesses currently there.

Minister for Jobs, Investment, Tourism and Western Sydney Stuart Ayres said the developments were great news for those looking for careers in Western Sydney.

“With both projects expected to kick-off this month, it’s an exciting time for the area,” Mr Ayres said.

“Western Sydney is driving the COVID-19 economic recovery and these new business centres are examples of a confident region.”

Together the Central Sydney Industrial Estate in Rosehill and third stage of the Sydney Business Park in Marsden Park will generate 790 construction jobs and 658 operational jobs.
